The Italian shipping company with over 100 years of history:

The history of Vittorio Bogazzi and Figli has followed the evolution of commercial exchanges between the port of Carrara and the rest of the world.

Our history

From the transport of the local marbles…

The company was founded in 1890 by Vittorio Bogazzi as a shipping agency and customs broker. At the time the traffic consisted of marble which was loaded from the three piers of Marina di Carrara onto “navicelli” which transported the cargo to the ports of Genoa, Livorno and Naples to be then transshipped on motor vessels ships or sailing ships.

…To international partnerships

After the First World War, they started the construction of Marina di Carrara port, and small motorships carrying marble to Atlantic Spain and London began to call this port. The first partnerships were therefore born: Vittorio Bogazzi e Figli took over the agency of the Danish Torm Line..

Post-World War II and the economic boom

With the beginning of the Second World War the port traffic stopped , but right afterwards the War the port had a very important function for the export of chemical products from the Apuan industrial area. VBF became the exclusive agent of Montecatini Azoto for the export of fertilizer products and of Montecatini Calciocyanamide for the import of chromite from Albania and South Africa.

Exchanges with Africa & Middle East and new acquisitions

A very important activity for VBF has always been the transport of marble to Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia. At the beginning of the 1950s, VBF purchased, together with other partners, two ships dedicated to the traffic for the Sicilian ports, Tripoli and Benghazi.

Extension of activities worldwide

After the closure of the Suez Canal, VBF began operating as a charterer to serve the ports of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. In the 60s and 70s the imports trading got stronger as Carrara became the center of granite and stone processing. VBF played a fundamental role thanks to several international partnerships: with the Swedish company Hastshipping for transport from Sweden / Finland, with Lindstoneship for traffic from Norway, with the Vlasov group ( Amar Line and Warth Line) for traffic to the Red Sea, the Arabian Gulf and India. With the Gennari Lugano and the MSC of Brussels/Geneva the traffic of South African granites was also included. Activities with South America began first from Argentina and Brazil with Isa Line and then Spanish Euroflot and in the 80s with the partner Maritime International Carriers. Warth Line and Maritime Internacional Carriers then merged into Navalmar (UK) Ltd, of which Vittorio Bogazzi e Figli is the general agent.

Today, Vittorio Bogazzi e Figli is a cutting-edge company in maritime transport,
with custom services for every requirements,, from the transport of bulk cargo to project cargo for exceptional transports.
